Merlin Klauser.
Security engineer.

I work in cybersecurity. Outside it, I spend time with the people closest to me, run Vitaparcours, shoot film and alternate between hard techno, Vivaldi, books and older films.

01 / WORK

Security engineering,
practically applied.

My foundation is an EFZ in systems engineering. Today I work with enterprise cybersecurity: implementing products, investigating what went wrong and translating the answer into something people can use.

WHAT I LIKE

Concrete technical problems, clear responsibility and solutions that can be tested.

02 / INTERESTS

Things I care
about.

People, pursuits and experiences that shape how I spend my time.

01

Good company

Time with my girlfriend, friends and family. Loyalty, trust and being there for one another matter to me.

02

Military service

Military Police RS, followed by Infanterie-Patrouilleur UOS. I value the responsibility, clarity and shared purpose.

03

Vitaparcours

My preferred way to get out of my head: a full session, properly done, preferably somewhere in the woods.

04

Culture

Hard techno and Vivaldi; books and older films; conversations that continue long after the original question was answered.

05

Film photography

Colour negative film, direct flash and people I care about—especially when the last blue daylight is still in the sky.

03 / HOW I THINK

A few recurring
tendencies.

Ethics, history, technology and human behaviour are the subjects I most reliably disappear into.

01

Curious to a fault

I rarely stop at the first answer. One question about a practical problem can become an afternoon of history, ethics or engineering.

02

Accuracy before certainty

I would rather hear “I don’t know” than receive a confident answer built on guesswork.

03

People usually cooperate

I think most humans are fundamentally willing to help. Good systems make that instinct easier to act on.

04

Serious questions, unserious routes

Dark humour and absurd dilemmas are often how I test an idea—or simply how a conversation gets pleasantly out of hand.

04 / SELECTED FAVOURITES

A small cultural shelf.

01 / Film

Cloud Atlas

02 / Music

Antonio Vivaldi · Le quattro stagioni

03 / Camera

Canon A-1

04 / Book

A Farewell to Arms · Ernest Hemingway

05 / Author

C. S. Forester

THINGS I MAKE & EXPLORE

Photography

Occasional creative writing

Long-term preservation & resilient systems

05 / ASK ME ABOUT

Good ways to start
a long conversation.

01

History, ethics & absurd dilemmas

The normal questions—and the ones involving consequences nobody sensible would invent.

02

Military experiences

Military Police RS, infantry patrol training and the peculiar logic of Swiss militia life.

03

Film photography

Film choice, flash, blue-hour portraits and why inconvenience can still be worthwhile.

04

Cybersecurity

Products, incidents, architecture and the gap between theory and operations.
